Earlier in the year, we at Contemporary Indian Woman had instituted the first ever Prem Singh Short Story Award. The award was for original, unpublished works that highlighted issues pertaining to women in India.
Many of the entries received not only reflected high quality writing, but also illuminated a gamut of issues about women from various walks of life. While each entry has its own gravitas and beauty, there could be, only one winner for the award.
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Prem Singh Short Story Award, 2016 is Dr. Shoma A Chatterji's 'Backlash'; which was as unique as it was courageous in narrating one woman's story.
Dr. Shoma A Chatterji is a freelance journalist, film scholar and author. She has won numerous awards for her writings and has published 24 titles on the themes of gender and cinema. She lives in Kolkata with her husband.
